Materials We Use and Why It Matters
Cast Vinyl vs. Calendered Vinyl
Calendered vinyl is manufactured by running PVC compound through heated rollers. It’s cheaper to produce but has shrink memory, it wants to return to its manufactured shape over time, which causes edge lifting on textured or curved surfaces. We don’t use calendared vinyl for permanent installations.
Cast vinyl is poured onto a casting sheet and cured into a dimensionally stable film with no shrink memory. It conforms to textured surfaces and holds edge adhesion for years. For all interior custom wall wraps, we work with 3M IJ180Cv3 and Avery MPI 1005 as our primary substrates, depending on the surface type.
Laminate Selection
Every installation requires a laminate to protect the print layer from abrasion and UV. We spec three finishes based on your site’s lighting:
- Matte: Our standard for commercial wall wraps. It eliminates glare from overhead lighting and ensures office wall wraps photograph clearly for brand assets.
- Satin: This is the middle ground. It keeps the colors deep but kills the harsh reflections you get in retail spots with a lot of mixed lighting.
